Katy Perry channels the sexy pin-up models of yesteryear for her February GQ cover, and though her striped cutout swimsuit is plenty revealing, it’s her candid new interview where the singer bares it all.
If you were wondering what was going on in the singer’s head before she performed dressed like a Geisha at the American Music Awards this past November, she clearly wasn’t worried about offending anyone. In fact, Perry was quite busy chatting with GQ writer Amy Wallace about everything from literally praying for boobs as a young teen, to losing her virginity and plastic surgery.
By now, it’s been well established that Perry grew up in a strict religious household as the daughter of two traveling ministers. While she rebelled by pursuing a career in secular music, her now-famous curves could be seen as the result of years of prayer.
“I lay on my back one night and looked down at my feet, and I prayed to God. I said, ‘God, will you please let me have boobs so big that I can’t see my feet when I’m lying down?’” And at age 11, she said, “God answered my prayers. I had no clue they would fall into my armpits eventually.”
Perry goes on to explain that she sees everything through a “spiritual lens,” and earlier she admitted she believes in “a cosmic energy that is bigger than [herself].” She also believes in astrology and aliens.
“I look up into the stars and I imagine: How self-important are we to think that we are the only life-form? I mean, if my relationship with Obama gets any better, I’m going to ask him that question. It just hasn’t been appropriate yet,” she said.
