Recently, Gabe Jaramillo, Sharapova’s childhood coach, appeared on The Habit Coach with Ashdin Doctor podcast where he talked about his coaching career and developing some legendary players. Along with being an instrumental part of Sharapova’s rise, Jaramillo coached 11 world champions like Andre Agassi and Monica Seles. During the podcast, he talked in detail about Sharapova’s rise in her tennis career.
Opening up about it, he said, “I mean, you know that all these players when they were very young, I remember Sharapova, nine years old, too, if I tell the practice starts at eight o’clock in the morning, she was there half an hour earlier, making sure that she was ready. And at eight o’clock, she was hitting balls.”
It is not the first time Gabe Jaramillo has gone public while praising Sharapova. Last year too, he spoke highly about the Russian star.

When Jaramillo disclosed Sharapova’s mentality
During an interview last year, Sharapova’s childhood coach spoke about her tough mentality from a very young age. Talking about it, he said, “She was a special player since she was 9 years old. She seemed like a harmless little girl until she picked up the racket. There, she showed her champion mentality. She always hit the ball with a lot of confidence.”
Sharapova called time on her illustrious career in 2020, winning five major titles in total along with several WTA titles. She will always be remembered as one of the best tennis players born in her country.
