Earlier this week, Megan Fox stirred up some controversy when she (checks notes) posted a link to her nail tech’s GoFundMe on Instagram. The nail tech/friend, Brittney Boyce, was looking to raise $30,000 for her father’s medical expenses. She’s since raised it to $60,000.

Megan posted a screensH๏τ of the GoFundMe page to her Instagram Story, writing, “My friends dad was just diagnosed with pancreatic cancer if you guys are able to help please do.” Big mistake. HUGE. If there’s one thing the general populace hates, it’s fancy celebrities asking them to fork over their hard-earned bucks for online fundraisers. See: that time billionaire Kylie Jenner asked her followers to donate to makeup artist Samuel Rada’s GoFundMe after he got in a car accident. Kylie was criticized for only donating $5000. She eventually defended herself, explaining she didn’t have a “personal relationship” with Sam.

Megan’s critics argued that the star could have easily covered all of Brittney’s dad medical expenses. A Reddit user pointed out that the highest donation on Brittney’s page was only $300, and it definitely wasn’t Megan, cuz it wasn’t anonymous: “Sis better contribute herself and lead the way.” Counterpoint: Megan could have donated to her friend directly. We may never know.

Unfortunately for Megan, there’s also the issue of the diamond-encrusted manicure coincidence. At last year’s Billboard Music Awards, Megan’s boyfriend, Machine Gun Kelly (how are they still together?!), showed off his 880-diamond nail set, which Brittney helped create. The cost? Exactly $30,000.

Yesterday, Megan responded to the backlash in another Instagram Story. She wrote:

hey weirdos

do any of you have the emotional intelligence to consider that maybe brit doesn’t want her celebrity clients donating large sums of money to her because it creates a dynamic in her working relationships that makes her uncomfortable? so instead she asked me to post the gofundme so that many people could donate small amounts of money to help them reach their goal

i just obliged her request
anything she needs from me personally she will ask and i will do it privately

on thing you’re not going to accuse me of is being miserly or lacking generosity

so try again another day (probably tmwr!) with some different bullsнιт you bunch of psychos

Hmmm, I guess Megan has a point about creating a weird work dynamic, but if Brittney’s actively hustling to raise money for her dad, wouldn’t it be appreciated?Despite all the media attention, the nail tech’s GoFundMe has still only managed to garner $8,650. Not that it’s all on Megan; Brittney’s other famous clients include Kim Kardashian, the D’Amelio sisters, Olivia Rodrigo, and Kerry Washington. Come on, ladies! Do your part to make up for America’s mess of a healthcare system!
