Jennifer’s Body star Megan Fox is set to make her debut in the Mortal Kombat universe.
On 19 September, video game enthusiasts will finally be treated to Mortal Kombat 1, the highly anticipated 12th instalment in the ongoing series.
Set after the events of Mortal Kombat 11, the immersive project will follow Liu Kang, now a bona fide fire god, as he creates a new and peaceful universe.
Over the last few months, the game’s developers have slowly started to share new information about its revamped story, new Kameo feature and, most importantly, the character roster.
While the usual suspects – like Kitana, Raiden, Mileena, Johnny Cage and Kung Lao – have been confirmed, the game is also set to feature an array of popular characters that have been absent from the series for years.
One of those fan-favourite characters to make their grand return in Mortal Kombat 1 is the winged vampire Nitara – who will be voiced by bi icon Megan Fox.
The ᴅᴇᴀᴅly fighter from the Vaeternus realm first appeared in 2002’s Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance but hasn’t been a playable character since 2006’s Mortal Kombat: Armageddon.
In an official teaser, Fox gave further insight into Nitara’s upcoming appearance and her thoughts on being cast in the role.
“She comes from this weird realm, she is a type of vampire creature. She’s evil, but she’s also good. She’s trying to save her people. I really like her,” she explained.
“She’s a vampire, which obviously resonates for whatever reason. It’s cool to be in the game, you know? Because I’m not really just voicing it, it’ll be like she’s kind of me.”
Elsewhere in the teaser, the Transformers star admitted that recording the role has forced her to “tap into areas that she’s not comfortable.”
“I’ve had a lot of fun doing it, and it caused me to be more free with myself,” she added.
Toward the end of the featurette, Fox praised the Mortal Kombat franchise for being a “staple” in gaming.
“Mortal Kombat is just one of those staples. It’s been around since gaming has been around,” she said.
“It’s an opportunity that anybody would want because we did all grow up playing the game, and it’s one of the greatest video games of all time.”
Shortly after the news was announced, fans flocked to social media to express their excitement over Fox’s inclusion.
One fan wrote: “I’m actually living for this casting!!”
Another fan tweeted: “Ya know, her voicing Nitara is giving me some real Jennifer’s Body vibes, and that makes me like the choice easily.
Mortal Kombat 1 will be released on 19 September. However, players who have purchased the premium and collector’s editions will be granted access to the game on 14 September.
